Options for Residential Electricity Users in Texas

Texans have got many options in terms of their residential electricity usage to make savings. Not all people know about these options, so it becomes important to tell those important points elaborating these options.

The first and foremost in this regard is the power-to-choose option. A power-to-choose option allows Texans to go for an electric provider of their choice best meeting their electricity needs. This option was not available in the regulated Texas because there were no multiple options and hence going to the right electric provider was out of question.

Next to power-to-choose option is the pay-per-use plan. A pay-per-use plan enables you to pay as much as you want. The process is simple. The only thing you do is get a smart meter installed outside your home and then have to load it to its fill. Though many Texans go for this plan for their residential electricity, however, there are some key considerations with respect to this very plan. As this plan works the same way prepaid cell phone works, so you have to ensure before time that you’ll load your pay-per-use meter especially in cases when you have got medical instruments in your home that needs electricity for their working.

Besides above two mentioned residential electricity plans, there is one more point to be elaborated here and that can help you choosing your electricity plan. The point is about whether to go for a fixed electricity plan or a variable one? So, what are these two plans? A fixed plan is one that bound your electric provider to pay a fixed amount of price that you both i.e. you and your provider were agreed upon through a contract. Switching to such a plan is not affected by the fluctuations of electricity market. A variable plan is that is not fixed and will vary every month depending upon your monthly residential electricity usage. The price for this plan is affected by the electricity market fluctuations.
