Cheap Residential and Commercial Electricity Back Deregulation in Texas

The best thing about competitions is that they bring improved quality as outcome. Energy deregulation was aimed at bringing quality services and cheap rates for the residential as well as commercial usage of gas and electricity. It also brought more job opportunities for the Texans and for the new retail electric providers (REPs) to become a part of the deregulated energy market. Today, it’s almost a decade that energy deregulation has been successfully working in Texas. There are many factors that back this success and cheap residential and commercial electricity surpass all others.

In a competitive atmosphere a product or service gets outdated soon if it’s not paying to its target market and is replaced by a better service or product. The beauty of market economy is that it encourages competition and thus brings the best to the surface. "The survival of the fittest” theory seems best applicable at this market. If this theory is made the benchmark, deregulation in Texas wins the competition and if this theory is overlooked then again, the outcome remains the same.

From multiple options in the form of power to choose, pay-per-use, switching and a variable or fixed plan together bring cheap commercial and residential electricity for Texans in deregulated areas. Then there is always new players becoming a part of this competition. This again shows that Texas electricity market is vibrant and accommodating REPs and power consumers both in a win-win situation. More competition is only possible if there is some space for new players to join this market. The new players have to come up with special offers based on cheap rates to be noted by the power users. This brings cheap electricity to power consumers.

Cheap residential electricity in Texas becomes the referral point for many discussions aimed at bringing about improvements in deregulated energy markets other than Texas. Mitchell Schnurman’s column brings the same conclusion that I brought through my blog.
